Since the appointment of Alan B Herriot to create our statue of Mandela, progress has been excellent.
All of the arduous planning and fund-raising with the support of many is finally producing tangible results. Alan’s design is coming to life through the fascinating stages of steel armature, polystyrene modelling, skillful sculpting in clay leading to a beautifully detailed sculpture that will provide the basis for mouldings and eventually casting in bronze.
Alan’s talent from the outset has reassured us that he has been an excellent choice for our commission.

- All approvals in place for commencement of foundation works in early March and sub-contractor appointed. (Sir Robert McAlpine, Principal Contractor)
- Extension of our partnership working with WoSDEC (West of Scotland Development Education Centre) and their linked schools. The process of development of the statue is being captured via a video documentary.
