Celebrate the 30th anniversary of Mandela’s visit to Glasgow

On 9th October 1993 Nelson Mandela received the Freedom of Glasgow, Dundee, Midlothian, Aberdeen and five other UK local authorities at a joint ceremony in Glasgow City Chambers.

He followed this up with a speech to a crowd of thousands in George Square, a joyous and unforgettable occasion. He then went on to speak to a conference of local authorities from across the UK, held in Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall that afternoon.

We asked for your memories of the day Nelson Mandela danced in George Square. Click HERE for the memories from those who were there on that unforgettable day.

The A2 reproduction of the poster about the visit is still available, with many other Anti-Apartheid posters, on the NMSMF Ebay site at bit.ly/mandelaebay.
