On the occasion of the10th anniversary of the death of Nelson Mandela the Nelson Mandela Scottish Memorial Foundation and ACTSA Scotland invite you to the Mandela -Tambo Lecture.
We are delighted that H.E. Jeremiah Nyamane Mamabolo, High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa will be giving the lecture. The event will be held in St George’s Tron Church, Nelson Mandela Place, Glasgow at 6 for 6.30pm Tuesday 5 December 2023
Bailie Patricia Ferguson representing the Lord Provost, will give the welcome and the event will be chaired by Brian Filling.
The Nelson Mandela Scottish Memorial Foundation and ACTSA Scotland are hosting the lecture as part of the Mandela-Tambo lecture series to commemorate the life, struggle and legacy of Nelson Mandela.
Following the death of Nelson Mandela on 5 December 2013 a gathering of several hundred people was held in Nelson Mandela Place on the evening of 6 December. It is therefore appropriate that we should host this lecture in St George’s Tron Church, located in Nelson Mandela Place.
His Excellency Jeremiah Nyamane Mamabolo, South African High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland.
Prior to becoming the South African High Commissioner to the UK he was South Africa’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York and Joint Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations / Chairperson of the African Union, a position which he held until 2021.
Since the ending of apartheid in 1994 he has been High Commissioner to Zimbabwe and Nigeria; Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sudan, Djibouti; and Deputy Director General for African Affairs in the South African Department of Foreign Affairs.
During the years of apartheid High Commissioner Mamabolo served as Head of the ANC’s missions to Mozambique, Cuba and Zimbabwe.
